KOREAN IS CONSIDERED TO BE A VERY LOGICAL SYSTEM OF WRITING.

Hangul, the script to read and write Korean. It was created in the court of King Sejong during the Chosun Dynasty (1393-1910). Before the creation of Hangul, Chinese characters were used by the educated which was not widely understood and accessed by the common people.

Alphabet structure in Hangul is considered to have a very logical approach and are very efficient alphabets in the world which is why it has garnered unanimous praise from language experts for its scientific design and excellence.

The principal reason why Hangul has attracted this praise is that the shapes of the letters are related to the movements of the mouth while producing the sounds they represent. In addition, vowels and consonants are made from different vertical or horizontal lines so that they are easily distinguishable from each other.

KOREAN IS THE SECOND OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF INDIA AFTER ENGLISH.

On July 30th 2020, the Indian government revised its education policies after 28 years and included Korean in its official foreign language list. Prior to Korean being made the second official foreign language, Mandarin was the second official foreign language of India, followed by English. However, the Chinese language, also known as Mandarin doesn’t find mention in the NEP this year because of the very evident reason for ongoing border tension between India and China at the Line of Actual Control.

The inclusion of Korean in the official foreign-language list showcases the strides that both the countries have taken in matters of external affairs and diplomatic outreach. This step will certainly be a game-changer in Indian as well as in the Korean market, in terms of trade and economy.

KEY TO BETTER CAREER PROSPECTS WITH COMPARATIVELY LESSER COMPETITION

The world is aware of how fast South Korea has established itself as the 12th largest economy in the world and is the top rank country in investing in Research & Development. Conglomerates like Samsung, Kia, Hyundai, LG, Posco etc, are only some notable names among the many which have led South Korea to conquer the global market.

Even in 2020, when it comes to learning a foreign language most people opt for Western/European languages which makes the competition in the Eastern comparatively less, despite the fact that all the opportunities remain intact. Other than direct language-related fields, there is a great scope among the leading companies in South Korea for foreign applicants. And this increases if you already know their language.

INDO-KOREAN TRADE RELATIONS AND THE STRONG KOREAN ECONOMY

The great Indian scholar, poet, and writer Rabindranath Tagore in the Nobel winning collection Gitanjali wrote a quatrain in which he described Korea as the “Lamp of the East.” He said, “In the golden age of Asia, Korea was one of its lamps – bearers and that lamp are waiting to be lighted once again for the illumination in the East.”

Globalisation has significantly accelerated the integration of economics of various nations of the world, including South Korea and India. Today, the trade records between India and South Korea have increased tremendously, and many Korean companies are operating in the Indian market and learning Korean in this era can surely prove to make situations favourable and better for you, in whichever field you may see fit.

UNDERSTAND YOUR FAVOURITE K-DRAMAS AND K-POP SONGS

Entertainment truly has no language and the widespread popularity of K-dramas and K-pop have very well proven that. However, sometimes the essence of the conversation or the message gets lost in the translation or the subtitles. Being able to read, write and converse in Korean will ensure that you interpret the dialogues of your favorite character as they are and with their true forms intact.
