Learning a language always has a well-reason behind it, that motivates you and talking about the Korean language there are many reasons. In some cases it's because of the work, money and in some cases it's all about fun and entertainment.

We will talk about the fun and entertaining part. Many people start learning   Korean because of Kpop songs or Kdramas.

Without any doubt, Kdramas are the most popular reason people choose to learn Korean. In order to understand the conversations in the Kdramas more naturally, many people decide to learn korean.

Everyone thinks that  learning a language means to flip read some boring textbooks, BUT STOP! Did you know that you can learn Korean through watching some of your popular Korean dramas? That will be so much fun right!! 

There are many ways you can improve your Korean language skills by watching some fun and entertaining Kdramas. Korean dramas have a decent mix of everyday useful Korean words and phrases and it could be a great audio and video resource for language input.

You can find some really common and useful day to day Korean phrases , you can write them down and try to remember those phrases. Most of the Kdramas that I am going to mention below are available on Viki rakuten, where you can use the subtitle option and change it to Korean instead of english by doing that if you are  having some problem with understanding their dialogues you can pause the screen turn on the Korean subtitle and can  take your time.

DESCENDANTS OF THE SUN 

Descendants of the sun is a 2016 South Korean television series. It was the most successful Kdrama in the year 2016.the genre of the show is romance, melodrama and action.  Starring really popular superstars actors , Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-kyo, Jin goo and Kim Ji-won.

The story revolves around the moral duties and the sacrifices done by our soldiers and doctors and some passionate love stories also . The drama will be really helpful for improving Korean formal  language skills because the story revolves around the officers and ranks so most of the time they will be using Korean formal language.

The Descendants of the sun television series is produced by leading companies KBS and next entertainment world. The show has 16 episodes total and there are 3 special episodes also that contain the highlights and best scene of  the entire drama.

MY ID IS GANGNAM BEAUTY 

My id is Gangnam beauty is a 2018 south Korean television series. The story is originally based on a webtoon which has the same name. 

The genre of the show is romance, comedy and Kang mi-rae who had cosmetic surgery because she was bullied for her entire school year for her face appearance but that did not go as planned as the students at her  universities criticised her by calling her fake beauty.

Despite all of this drama we will see a cute love story of Kang mi rae(Lim soo-hyang) and school’s most popular and handsome man, do Kyung-seok (Cha eun-woo).

My ID is Gangnam beauty television series produced by JTBC . lead roles of the drama starring Lim soo-hyan, Cha eun-woo, Jo woo-ri and Kwak dong-yeon. The drama has a total of 16 episodes. 

THE HEIRS 

The Heirs also known as THE INHERITORS is a 2013 South Korean television series. The genre of the show is romance drama and teen . The story revolves around the lives of second generations of a wealthy family as they are bound to take over their families business empires. Kim-tan, an heir of Jeguk group (wealthy business group) and also an illegitimate son, is exiled to the U.S. by his half brother who wants to be the heir of the entire Jeguk group.

In the U.S. he falls in love with a Cha Eun-sang, a girl that comes from a poor family and came to the U.S. in search of her elder sister. Kim-tan is already engaged to a fellow heiress, Yoo rachel. After returning to Korea he goes to a high school where all the heirs of big company groups used to go.

The story shows the ups-downs of the heirs and how they have to suffer because of the family pressure and not be able to follow their dreams or their likes. In this drama we will see a two way romance, heartbreaks, high school life and many more.

CRASH LANDING YOU 

Crash landing on you is a 2019 South Korean television series. This is one of the most popular South Korean dramas worldwide and it is the third highest rated drama in South Korean television history.

The story is about a girl named Yoon se-ri , from South Korea who is a rich heiress went to do paragliding in Seoul but because of the sudden storm she get lost and accidentally crossed the South Korea border and an  army captain Ri jeong-hyeok , found her in Korea’s DMZ (demilitarised zone) and decides to keep her safe in north korea and sent her back to her home.

Despite being a south Korean girl and north korean boy they fall in love and here the drama begins. If you want to know about life in North Korea, it is the best drama you can watch !

STRONG WOMAN DO BONG-SOON

Strong woman do bong-soon, also known as strong girl bong-soon, is a 2017 South Korean television series. The story is about a girl named do bong-soon who looks like a small, cute and tiny girl but every woman in her house is born with an unbelievable strength as a superpower so she is also born with such strength.

There is a CEO of a game company, Ahn min-hyuk who is threatened by someone and he does not trust police, so he hires do bong-soon as his bodyguard. This Kdrama was a massive hit and became one of the highest rated dramas in South Korean television history.

HAPPINESS 

Happiness is a 2021 South Korean television series. The story is about a disease crisis, a girl called Yoon sae-bom who is an officer in a special police squad wants to get a government free apartment but she will get the apartment if she has the required performance points.

To gain her special points she decides to marry her long-time bestfriend Jung yi-hyun, who is a police officer. They are really excited to move into their apartment but a disease crisis breaks out in her building and they are locked there.

The story has other interesting characters also and we will see how happiness is different for every person. The genre of the show is thriller and action. 

Happiness is produced by TVN network. Starring Park hyung-sik, Han-hyo-joo and Jo-woo-jin in leading roles. The show has 12 episodes.

TRUE BEAUTY 

True beauty is a 2020 South Korean television series . The show is originally based on a webtoon of the same name. The story centers on a high school girl Im ju-kyung, who was being bullied by her schoolmates because of her facial appearance. She decides to transfer from her school and start a new chapter of her life.

She doesn't want to get looked down because of her appearance, for that she starts doing makeup by watching some tutorial videos and goes to her new school life, where everyone praises her for her beauty.

She doesn't want anyone to find her real-self but destiny has decided something else . There is a handsome and popular boy called Lee su-ho, Ju Kyung runs into him a couple of times before and with her bare face.

She finds that boy in her school who knows about her real self. There is another boy, Han seo-jun, who is also very popular and handsome. Soon she  found herself in a love triangle . It is a two way romance story.

IT’S OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY

It's okay to not be okay is a 2020 South Korean television series. The story deals with a very sensitive topic , mental illness and depression.

It was the most popular show of 2020 in the romantic genre in South Korea. The drama series content follows a psych ward caretaker Moon gang-tae while there is a successful children's book author Ko mon-yong who has an antisocial personality. Sang tae, brother of Mang tae, is a mental illness patient and he adores Ko moon-yong for her stories.

All three of them help each other to get rid of their past and pains. The three of them kept each other’s company and slowly found their true selves. The genre of the show is romantic, comedy, thriller and drama.

HOMETOWN CHA CHA CHA

Hometown Cha Cha Cha is a 2021 South Korean television series. The series was a massive hit and gained the highest ratings in television history while in their running period.

The series became one of Netflix's most watched non-english shows. In this drama, a girl named Yoon hye-jin, who is a pretty and intelligent dentist but because she raises her voice against a senior dentist who is overdoing patients medications for profit, Hye-jin loses her job. She goes for a vacation to a seaside village to overcome her sadness, where she meets Hong du-sik, he is a hardworking person and does every kind of word , respects the elders and he is loved by the villagers. Du-sik helps Hye-jin many times in trouble.  The genre of the show is romantic comedy.

HWARANG: The poet warrior youth 

Hwarang is a 2016 South Korean television series. If you want to know more about South Korean history, this is one of the best dramas . The story is set-up in the Silla kingdom. The story revolves around a group of six young mens called "Hwarang". Each of them discovers their passions, love and friendship. The show shows the history of South Korean culture and tradition.

The show gains very much popularity because of its star- studded cast. The show has very popular actors and a big star-cast. The genre of the show is historical, comedy and romance.
